Illipe butter is obtained from the seeds of the Shorea stenoptera fruit, a plant that is indigenous to the tropical forests of South-east Asia and flourishes especially in Borneo and Indonesia. In these places, it was used by the Aborigines in traditional medicine as a soothing balm or skin softener.
